This week all of the bloggers are writing a common blog called Hopkins Cribs. At some point there should be a poll on the message boards asking you which one you think is best.
My rational for why you should vote for me is that I’m going to tell you the whole gritty truth about my room. The good the bad and why it looks the way it does.
Okay so I’m one person not entirely satisfied with housing. Last year too many students enrolled. As a result housing was squished. Originally I was placed in a temporary triple in Building A (that’s suite style rooms check out Julia's blog for an example). I really loved Building A; my floor was very social and I made so many friends so quickly. Then about three weeks into school housing called and said that I had to move. They had found a space for me in McCoy (sophomore housing) and I had to take it or face living in cramped quarters for the rest of the year.
Now I was living with sophomores, who although they were very nice, already had friends and did not want to do the freshman experience again. I spent a lot of the fall shuffling around between Building A and McCoy as I tried to find a balance between friends, school, and travel time.
I really
like my roommate in McCoy she’s very cool and is great to live with. Anyway
before I moved in they told her that someone she had never met would be living
with her. She decided to arrange the room so that if I turned out to be weird
she could have a completely separate side of the room. See picture.
Also though
I cleaned up the room for the pictures I left some of my normal mess. I don’t make
my bed every day so I it’s not made in the picture. My desk is usually a
mess
so I decided to leave that. Or is it that I’m just too lazy to actually clean
my room. I think it’s because I want to show you my real room and not how
photogenic I can make it.
Anyway on the tour of my room there are some things to
point out.
This wall has the posters form several of the plays that I’ve
been involved with. The one in color is for Into
the Woods it’s currently running. I did the costumes for it. Any students
that are visiting next weekend might want to come see it (Friday and Saturday at
8 and Sunday at 2).
There is also a somewhat dead rose on my desk. This is from
the stage manager and music organizer for Into
the Woods. They gave roses to the whole cast and crew (so nice!).
On my bed
there is a black, blue, and white blanket (see above pic). My grandmother crocheted this for me
in
Hopkins
colors for a Christmas present. I think it’s amazing.
Above my bed on the wall
there are three things hanging, a fan (from
Chinatown
in NYC when I went to visit Julia), a mask (from Purim. My temple sent us a care package), and a painting (that my mom gave me so I could decorate my room).
On the wall behind my bed there is also a collection of postcards that I have received from
my family over the year. Also there is a series of postcards from my summer job
(I worked at a castle in upstate
New York
. The postcards show what the castle looked like
in 1912).
Then you can see my wardrobe and my draws are under my bed.
My bed is in a half loft i.e. halfway to the ceiling. Those are the highlights of my room.
Oh here are some pictures of the bathroom
I really like it because the shower
stall is
large enough that you can sit down to shave your legs.
Although I
still wish that I could have lived in Building A for the whole year I have reconciled
to my position in McCoy
(a plus is that we have a kitchenette).
Now that you’ve seen my room it’s time to vote for your favorite room on the message boards. Good luck
Esther - I'm glad you've taken good care of my room from last year!
