Living the Suite Life
Bom dia! My name is Rob and I come from a small town in southern New Hampshire. I am a freshman
here at Hopkins and this first month and few days have been pretty interesting to say the least. Before I get to that, I should probably introduce myself a bit.
As I said, I’m from New Hampshire. It’s a pretty sweet state, but it is nice to be down here in Baltimore. My town was very small, so it has taken some time to adjust to city life. One of the reasons I chose to come here was because I was in a city, yet I still had a REAL campus. It’s a nice change to always have something to do; this campus and city are non-stop 24/7.
This year, I reside in what we like to call the “penthouse” of Wolman. My
suite is on the seventh floor, the very top of the building. We have a wicked view of downtown Baltimore. It took some time to figure out our setup, but my roommate and I got our beds lofted and bought a futon for the room. Living the suite life is awesome (hence the title); four of us share a kitchen and bathroom, which as I speak is in the process of being cleaned. (Side note: cleaning is extremely important in college; it is amazing how quickly our room can go from clean to the disgusting level…) I have got to give a shout out to my suitemates, they are swimmers and they are pretty awesome. They have practice in the morning so the morning rush before class is much less hectic. Outside of our suite, Wolman is the place to be. Our floor mates are awesome and there is ALWAYS someone out in the common room.
Speaking of the morning, my classes are
awesome. My schedule isn’t too stressful but it has its days. I am taking Physics and lab, Portuguese (I’ll try to use some of the language every once and a while), Contemporary International Politics (CIP), and Issues in International Development. I say I am a Public Health major, but I really have no idea what I want to do. That’s what is great about Hopkins, I have so many options and I am really able to explore them all.
In the coming weeks, I will talk more about what I do around campus and some of the interesting things I have experienced so far (from my crazy swimmer suitemates to my first college sickness). So I’ll leave you with a famous quote: “Hi Mom!”
Hi Rob!! I hope you become a PREO LEADER because it is awesome!!! And New Hampshire is an awesome state because it's really really beautiful. (I have yet to visit/play.... alas)
