Greetings all! I hope you are enjoying the final weeks of summer, and getting adjusted to the fact that the school year is beginning. The month of August in college admissions is bitter sweet in that it still seems to be the relaxing, business casual summer but at the same time the pace of our work picks up greatly. I am in currently in the throes of many work responsibilities -- fall travel planning, relaunching Hopkins Interactive, web updates, new staff training, etc. -- but I am also getting ready for my last vacation of the summer.
Yes, yes...Soze and I will be once again enjoying a few days away from the office and Baltimore. On the agenda will be spending quality time with my family and my niece (check out her new photos), chillaxin' (I learned a new word!!!) by the pool, hoping my golf game continues to improve, and most importantly watching my beloved, first place New York Mets LIVE!!! On Monday evening my father and I will be in Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park watching the Mets "hopefully" beat up on the Phillies once again. And oh yeah, we have FRONT ROW seats along the visiting third base line. And yes, Pedro Martinez is scheduled to pitch. Pictures of David Wright, Jose Reyes, Pedro, and the rest to follow...
[[[OK, I know you all are probably rolling your eyes about my vacation plans, but for me a few days with family, my amazing niece, and the Mets is just perfect. And it will be the best tonic to energize me for the busy Admissions year that awaits, and that means useful Hopkins Insider posts in the future. So it is a win, win for all.]]]
While I am away, don't forget to check out my previous posts. The August 1st post announcing our 2006-07 Application has been popular, and as of this morning we have 492 in progress JHU Online Applications and 2143 in progress online Common Applications. I hope you all have also been enjoying the links I provided in my July 30th post -- keep the comments coming on the "rainbow approach" (#7) and check out the Thacker book too (#6).
Before I let you all go enjoy the weather, here is a bit of a preview of what is to come from the Hopkins Insider blog:
- A Summer Wrap-up entry that discusses the role of an Admissions Counselor / Office & some of the ideas in the Thacker book.
- A preview of the new Hopkins Interactive and an introduction to our new student bloggers, including a number of students from the Class of 2010.
- An introduction of the new staff in the Admissions Office, and a re-introduction to the entire Admissions Committee.
- Extensive Q & A about applying to JHU.
- My comments about popular culture, Fall Season TV, must see movies, and much, much more.
Be well, and Let's Go Mets!
