Ok before I begin this post I would like to say congratulations to Niki Anderson for correctly naming Spoon as the artist for last week's blog title, The Way We Get By. Please, I encourage people to comment and receive the satisfaction of being right and making me happy.
The street where I live is North Charles and here is the view out of the window next
to my desk. It snowed last night and today while I am sitting at my desk and writing this blog, I am looking upon snow covered cars (which include an adorable-looking mini cooper). I hope everyone notices the shamrock by the window (my roommate said we don't need to have a four-leaf-clover, three is good enough for us). My lovely room is located in a corner of AMR I Wilson House. Our little nook of three rooms consists of four girls from North California, a girl from Massachusetts, and me. I was very happy when I found out that I had a corner room because, while our room is not the largest in our house, it has three windows (wonderful for cross-ventilation when the temperature is warmer and your building does not have air conditioning). Another effect of our multiple windows is that when the sun is out, our room becomes sort of a sauna( as opposed to the icebox it was during the night a few days when the heat wasn't working). Although I must say the heat that is now on has been quite nice and our room temperature has been very warm and cozy.
With that in mind, let me start with my roommate's side of the room.
It was Alex's birthday a bit
ago and her family has a tradition of displaying handmade birthday signs with funny jokes and statements. This year, her parents sent me the signs and I surprised her by posting them around the room. So, both of our wardrobes and the area by our light switch are covered with bright birthday signs. (Oh, it looks like it is snowing hard again, jeez Louise).
Continuing on the tour of our room, I would like to point out the area that is Alex's desk. Notice the printer and the map of Paris above the desk which adds wonderful
decoration. (I promise you the picture of the model was part of the birthday signs, we did not just put that up). The strange thing about our room is that these pictures don't describe what it is really like, because in the photos, it appears empty to me. the reason you might ask.... our room would not be our room if I did not include all the people that come and visit to just hang out or watch Grey's Anatomy. An important thing that you may want to know is that we have to pay for cable. At the beginning of the year, Comcast sets up various tables where you can order cable and set up an installation date. It is kind of a pain, but if you, like me, enjoy watching the news and other TV shows, then I believe it is completely worth it. Also, it always is fun to have a bunch of friends over to watch a TV show.
By the TV, there is a lovely collection of movies which includes the entire 6 seasons of Sex and the City ( our goal for the semester is to finish all the episodes in all of the seasons), Love Actually, The Devil Wears Prada, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, West Side Story, The Sound of Music, and many more.
In Alex's corner of the room, we have some lovely posters of Switzerland and Greece.
On my side, there is the very cliche black and
white poster of the sailor "Kissing the War Goodbye" in Times Square, a small Love Actually poster that was passed down to
me from a friend and a picture from Vogue, some people claim its Audrey Hepburn, but I don't think so. The picture just seems so summer like and calm, I figured it would be a good thing to keep above my workspace. I'm planning on buying another poster, but I haven't yet decided between a picture of Venice or a poster of a famous painting.
An interesting thing about my room is that our beds are half-lofted. If you are not 6-ft tall you have to perfect a kind of graceful jump into the bed. (I even bought a step
ladder for those who do not want to attempt the jump). The good thing is that by lofting our beds we are able to fit our three drawers underneath and leave more floor space. Although our room is not large by any sense, lofting the bed provides a much better set-up. Whether you add a hanging coat/towel rack over the door, stack bins to use as shelves, or even put bins full of shoes beneath your bed, there are many ways in which to utilize the space so even though you may not necessarily make your room look like home, you can live comfortably.
Ok, so now you've seen where I live and hopefully enjoyed this tour. There's not much else to say except, until next time...
Such a sad movie collection in my humble opinion. I am a movie snob though. Your saving grace is Love Actually!

Correct Kelsey! It is from My Fair Lady. Thanks for responding, let's see if you can get the next one.
Oh and Daniel I happen to know I have some good movies that I'm sure you would approve of, including The Usual Suspects.
