Hello Goodbye
Hello Fall! I went home this past weekend because it was Parent's Weekend. Instead of having all of my family visit me, I went to visit them. It was a great weekend, but too short. I'm so happy because since it has been warm in Baltimore, the leaves haven't really changed. Contrastingly, at home, it was
peak season. I went to our local Starbucks and there were lots of leaves that had trailed in from outside; that and my pumpkin latte made me feel really fallish. Even the rain and wind was perfect for fall. With the nor'easter Noel hitting the Northeast, there was some rain and tons of winds but it was still really great. The train ride back was an hour longer than it should have been, but when we stopped in Metropark, NJ, I had a celebrity sighting! Right outside of my train car, on the platform, was Kumar
from the movie Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. His actual name is Kal Penn, and he also is a star on House. I immediately called my brother and sister who both thought it was hilarious. The best part about being in the NY area is that you run into celebrities, but everyone is so nonchalant about it. You act as if you see celebrities everyday, no need to go crazy about it like they do in L.A.
In any case, that was the highlight of my train ride. The only other great thing that happened while I was on the train was that the Patriots beat the Colts! After this, our schedule is not too difficult, so I'm
hoping we end up 16-0 for the season. I had my Dad call and update me every time something important happened or when the score changed in the game. Anyway, I had this one blog planned, but I didn't have time to do the necessary preparations because I was away. Instead, I will write about the interesting classes that are being offered next semester.
THE STUDY OF LITERATURE: BRITISH LITERATURE I: MIDDLE AGES TO 18th CENTURY (3) HalpernLimit 80 An introductory survey of major works by British writers, designed to give some sense of the literary and cultural history of the period. Texts: Chaucer, Canterbury Tales (selected); Spenser, Faerie Queene, Book 1; Milton, Paradise Lost; Pope, The Rape of the Lock.
- I love English classes and last year I took a great Shakespeare class with Professor Halpern. If only Political Philosophy wasn't scheduled at the same time...
INVESTMENTS AND PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT (3) Pritsker Limit 25 per section Prereq: 180.301, 550.111 - Statistical Analysis or Perm. Req’d. Investment securities and their markets, especially the stock market. The relations between expected return and risk. The determination of security prices. Financial portfolio selection. The assessment of the performance of managed portfolios.
- Since I'm addicted to the Stock Market, this class would be a great source of information in helping me to choose a better portfolio.
INTRODUCTION TO POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY (3) Moyar Limit 20 per section This course will examine classical and
contemporary writings in political philosophy, focusing primarily on the nature of justice and on the justification of democracy.
- While I have read different types of political philosophy, I have never taken a class specifically on Political Philosophy.
POLITICAL PARTIES (AP) (3) Saldin No discussion of American politics can go too far before political parties begin to intrude. This course will explore the origin, development, importance, and consequences of political parties in the United States.
- Personally, I think this class would be perfect for me. With my interest in American Politics,
what class could be better. Also, I would like to let you know that I am severely limiting the political classes that I think are interesting. This spring semester there are so many!!!
AMERICAN GRAND STRATEGY (AP) (3) Lind Limit 40 What role should the U.S. seek to play in the world? This course will explore all sides in the debate over American grand strategy, from primacy to neo-isolationism, with the aid of readings from political scientists, commentators and makers of foreign policy.
- This class is similar to the first in that it deals with America, but it is on an international level. I think this course would be ery enlightening and hopefully have some interesting debates.
BUSINESS LAW I (3) This course is designed for the student who is interested in either (a) a broad
knowledge of law as it relates to modern business, or (b) a survey of many business related aspects of law with a view to further legal studies. Course will involve reviewing and analyzing statutory and case law covering a variety of substantive subject areas including civil procedure, personal and subject matter jurisdiction, intentional torts, negligence, criminal law, contract law, consumer law and parts of the Uniform Commercial Code. This course, together with Business Law II, will provide a complete, self-contained, well-rounded, in-depth study of Business Law, or will provide a foundation for further legal study.
- With my interest in becoming a lawyer, this class would provide some good background information. I heard from more than one person that hat this class is great. It is at night from 6:15-9:00, but it is only once a week. My friend recently recommended taking a night class because she said you only really have to worry about it for that one night and sometimes you get out early!
There are many more classes which I find to be particularly interesting such as Ethics of War, Introduction to Archeology, and Game Theory. Unfortunately, I am not able to take all of these classes
and am trying to take some required philosophy and economic classes for my majors. The classes next semester are now on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday and Tuesday/Thursday schedule; it will definitely be different than last year. I just hope I will be able to get into the classes that I really want to take and I will be sure to update you once I register, post November 16th. I hope everyone had a great weekend and is loving fall as much as I am. Until next time...
Aww, you're SO lucky that you got to go home and see the foliage!

So, Kal Penn is one of the new House characters competing for a job with House, and at first, because I fear change and I hate that "13" girl, I hated all the new doctors. However, I have to say, some of them are growing on me. I like the Jewish guy, and I like Kal Penn. The quiet guy with the fiancee isn't bad either. Pretty much, I hate any woman who's not Cameron though. Cutthroat girl is awful and 13 is way too pretty and way too "Used to be on the OC" to be on House.
THE END.

My picks for House's new staff are:
13 - she is hot
Kal Penn - you have to choose Kumar
Jeffrey - seems to have the best back story and really gets under House's nerves.
Oh and yeah ... down with all Boston Sports Teams (please!!!) - just kidding (mostly).

i can't believe you saw Kumar! So jealous!
But it had to have happened in Jersey!

Haha, you should have jumped off the train and asked Kumar to accompany you to White Castle. Your trip home sounds adventurous enough, but imagine that!

I did not realize that 13 was the one from The OC. Wow, completely different without the blonde hair. I kind of like her mysteriousness, but she is clearly not as good as Cameron. Who is going to be the next Chase??? I don't see any good prospects. Oh, I am definitely supporting Kumar.
