Ah, the REAL MCCOY. Home. I have lived in the residence hall of McCoy for about 8 months now. It's not the greatest room on campus, but for a nineteen year old who doesn't contribute to the nation's GDP, it's a pretty nice set up.
I'm living with my roomate from last year. I knew he would be a good roomate and we get along well, etc etc. So that was important, and he gets up earlier than I do to take showers and so on, so there is no overlap or contraversy in that department. So you science types who get up earlier for classes...get a roomate who is not a science type who wakes up later. That way, you can be Yin and Yang to each other, as far a showering goes. And when you get tests back, you're roomate won't care what you got, nor does he ever want to talk about your schoolwork, so it's a nice refuge.
The second floor of McCoy has a small gym with treadmills available to everyone. Through another set of doors is a large common room for the floor. Here has a TV and alot of sitting space as well as tables for those in larger groups. I frequently see meetings held in there, and people who watch TV if you don't have cable in their room.
On the common rooms are the rooms themseleves: except for mine which is before you enter the common room. The rooms themselves can hold up to four people. These four people have a kitchenette with a fridge, stove, sink and cabinets. The suite also has a bathroom with a large shower, toilet and sink obviously. Then the suite has two rooms. My roomate and I live in one room, and we are provided with two beds, two desks, two small closets, and eight drawer units.
I brought my own folding shelf, which theoretically is used for holding my books and other page bound items. However, the books are all over the place and it seems more clothing is on my shelves than books. (but more books aren't in my drawers?.....strange.) My desk is a melee of papers, books, pens, and the remains of slain Gatorades. I love my desk. Not as much as I love my dog.
My bed. what can I say? I didn't put sheets on it for the first 4 months of school. Don't ask me why..... But now it is very comfortable and well sheeted. But my bed is apart of my complex money- laundry, I MEAN....clothes-laundry system. When clothes are cleaned, they are put on the bed. When I want to go to sleep, the clothes are put on the floor. When I want to pick out clothes, all the clean clothes go on the bed, while dirty ones stay on the floor. It's a fairly complex and secret system. I shouldn't even be talking about it.
But my decorations I'm proud of. I bring more books to school than anything else. I have a books lining my desk and shelves, and used to be on my window sill....but I don't like to talk about that. The other thing I pride myself on is the maps on my wall. I like to travel, and I like to see the places I have been, haven't been and where I will never go. And as I sit late at night doing chemistry, I think to myself....99.99999999999999999999999% of the world doesn't need to know this, why should I? But then I think that 70% of the world has never heard a dial tone, and I get off facebook and open up my chem book.
So that is a crash course in my room. I wish I could tell you more about my kitchen, but I forgot what it looks like under all the dishes, and I wouldn't dare to see what the fridge looks like. The bathroom has a very zen like atmosphere, as I spend a part of my day there. Other than that......yeah.......go McCoy.
