During the summer, I had really great intentions to work out, but something always got in the way (drawing, eating, facebook...). Since I got to Hopkins though, that has changed a bit. The rec center is right behind my building, and there's so much to do there that doesn't just involve lifting or running (although that's there too).
My favorite part of the rec center is the climbing wall, and that's where I spend a lot of my time now. I actually had never climbed before coming to Hopkins, but I fell in love pretty fast and have been going several days a week since. After all the warnings about "Freshman 15," I am actually in better shape now than I was during the summer, although it isn't very difficult to be in better shape than I was.
I have been trying to convince my friends here to try climbing, but a lot of them respond by giving excuses, like saying that they are scared of heights or that they don't have enough upper body strength. Well, my response is, both of those apply to me, but I tried anyway and ended up loving it. Well, saying that hasn't convinced any of them to climb yet, but maybe it can convince you, in case you get the chance to climb at some point.
Rock climbing isn't the only thing I've been doing though. I've been dabbling in several intramural sports for my dorm building (Go building A!) including water polo, flag football, and soccer (although I've missed all the soccer games so far because I just can't seem to figure out when they are happening).
I'm just having fun trying out all kinds of different things whenever I can, and I suggest you do the same when you get to college. It may cause you to have a busy schedule, but it's just a matter of balancing out your schedule. I have been so much more efficient since I got to college, I used to waste so much time and now I just don't have enough time to do that. Between studying, sports, and social life, my free time is very little. That's not to say it doesn't exist though, because I do manage to find time for a nap almost every day (even though I probably shouldn't). I am desperately clinging to my habit of napping, it's my caffiene substitute because I don't drink coffee.
Well, a nap is actually sounding awfully good right now, but I have much work to do. Time for me to log out. Peace.
