New President of Johns Hopkins University!
After a long search through many highly qualified candidates, the Presidential Search Committee has elected a new president of Johns Hopkins University, Ronald J. Daniels! Although we are sad to say goodbye to current President William Brody in March, we are excited to welcome our 14th president and cannot wait to see what he brings to our university. Be sure to check out our previous update about Daniels and Johns Hopkins' official announcement for more information.
Fall Sports 2008
Johns Hopkins University had a truly remarkable fall sports season in 2008.
Men's Soccer
Men's Soccer advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 this year for the second time in the last three season and the seventh in program history. Akash Naik, a senior co-captain for the Blue
Jays, has been named a Third Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American. The Blue Jays finish their season with a 13-5-5 record.
Women's Soccer
The Women's Soccer team advanced to NCAA Round 3 this season for the first time in program history. Although the team's run came to an end with a 3-1 loss to William Smith in the NCAA Division III Sectional Semifinals, it enjoyed a true "dream season," with junior goalie Karen Guszkowski ranking #1 nationally with a 0.248 goals against average. She also owns the second-best save percentage in Division III (0.925).
Women's XC
Women's Cross Country enjoyed their second appearance in program history at the NCAA Championship this season. Junior Laura Paulsen led the team, finishing in 31st place with
a time of 21:37:36 to earn NCAA All-America honors. The Blue Jays finished 13th overall in the Championship and, though losing two seniors this year, they look forward to making another run to the NCAA Championship in 2009.
Football
With an 8-2 record and a second-place finish in the Centennial Conference, Johns Hopkins hosted Catholic University in the ECAC Southeast Bowl, one of seveon ECAC Bowls taking place on November 22nd. Although it was Catholic University that took the Bowl with a score of 18-17, the Blue Jays have rallied from their 4-6 record last year to the program's largest one-season turnaround since 1990.
Winter Sports -- Looking Ahead
Winter sports at Johns Hopkins are set to have great seasons as well.
Water Polo
The team, which has started off strong with a #1 national ranking, looks set to have a successful winter season! Further, 2008 graduate Sean McCreery has been named the 2007 Division III Player of the Year by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. This makes three consecutive Player of the Year titles for McCreery -- a feat never before accomplished!
Swimming
Things also look good for Johns Hopkins Swimming, which finished in 2nd place last year. The team stands with a currently even record of 3-3, with all three losses coming to Division I teams. The team returns to action at the Nike Cup Invitational at Kenyon College on December 4.
