Hey outside world!!! So it's that time of year: Hopkins Cribs time.
TA DA!!!
So here is 353 Gildersleeve. We live in AMR II, right above the sign in the middle of the building. I absolutely love our dorm: the rooms in the front have a great view of the AMR II courtyard and farther out the freshman quad and from rooms like mine in the back we can watch baseball games and practices. This is one of the 5 dorms that prospective freshmen can live in (the others are AMR I, Buildings A and B, and Wolman). AMR II is one of the communal living dorms, which is just a fancy schmancy term for shared bathroom. But for anyone with any misconceptions about the shared bathroom: it's not that bad. Take it from someone who's a ridiculously huge neat freak. It's
actually kinda nice: I've never had to wait for a shower and you'll get used to the shower shoes, guaranteed.
Plus this is probably the first, and last, time you'll get to live somewhere
with a social atmosphere like we have in the AMRs. I know I've said it before but I'll say it again: living here is the easiest way to meet people and get to know one another. My roommate and I leave our door open all the time when we're inside (unless it's the night before a midterm or something: you learn to respect each other's space so nobody gets killed in their sleep) and as I've been writing this post no less than 7 people have wandered in in the last 2 hours, I kid you not.
Anyway so my room is ridiculously decked out. Sam and I decided that the new semester merited a new room so we took it upon ourselves to completely re-arrange. So now instead of having my bed
at a medium height, it's almost fully lofted (which in layman's terms means bunked). Then underneath I have
constructed what has fondly been christened: The Grotto. I found a Japanese floor mattress and Camilla donated the srong and pink throw for the back splash. Tashi put in two furry pillows and a fur throw and Mr. Leopard (one of the stuffed loves of my life) stands guard. *In the picture Ahmed is displaying propper Grotto-chilling form* Then the other pic is a little hard to make heads or tails of. Basically what we've done is taken Christmas lights and created a little ambiance lighting on the bottom of the bed.
Then we move over to my desk. There's one messy pic and a couple clean pics (it's really amazing
how much you can straighten in 10 seconds!) Lets seee, starting in the middle I've got my laptop and a pic of my family. We've got loads and loads of textbooks and spirals on top so I can easily access them when the muse strikes me to study and then the most important thing in my
posession: my alarm clock (thought it was the computer didn't you?). Close up time! I'm not going to lie: that alarm clock is almost as old as Mr. Leopard and I can't imagine my life without it. You'll see it in the Cribs video, the monkey is super stoked about making his internet debut, but just rest assured that is one of the scariest ways to wake up modern man has invented.
On the back panel of my desk and on the left you see a bunch of post cards. Those are all (except for one) from my dad: he's been sending me postcards from back home and from his travels and I'm wallpapering my side of the room in Texan stuff: like cowboys, armadillos, cows, and more than my fair share of donkeys. It's a good time.
To the left is my dresser and my insane lei collection, leftovers from Keenan's b-day party (for which
the balloons are also left overs) and up above the dresser is where I've been storing my bath things (and yes, for all of you non-believers: I can reach.)
Then my favourite part of the room: the kitchen area-place. Sure all
we've got is our fridge and microwave, but we've created a mini countertop food-prep area which is, currently, loaded up. We try to eat healthy in this room (especially because camilla, tashi, and I go to the gym every morning: it just isn't worth going if you're just gonna mess it all up later. At any rate we snack on lots of veggies (notice our bags and bags of carrots!) but that hasn't stopped us from creating a mini ice cream parlour in our fridge (at last count we had 6 pints of ice cream crammed in there. Amazing? I think so.)
Then we move on to Sam's side of the room where she has her desk and her bed (on which Camilla is sitting in this picture) and then you're back at the door. On the back most rooms have bars to hang your towel on and you get to decorate the front yourself. I don't really know what's going on with our door as of late but it's got a lotta sketchy decorations, to say the least!!! I'm just going to plead the fifth and call it a night. Great well -- this is my room in a nutshell.

You = amazing.
