...the days we will remember.
Yes, if you caught that lyric and you guessed Keith Urban you're right, I've recently started giving country a chance, which is huge for anyone who knows me, but in retrospect, that's not the only thing that's changed since I started this blog last year.
And on that note I think that's what I'll focus on today: Introducing Roxi 2.0. So much has changed since my first blog ! We can start with the obvious, I'm no longer in AMR II, which you can read all about in my October 7th 2007 entry on first impressions of my dorm. But some things don't change, I still look totally clueless moving in!
Classes have started up and this year I really hit the ground running! There'll be much more to follow on classes, but that's not to say we haven't had time to go out and see what Hopkins has to offer. Last Tuesday Christopher Hitchens, author of "God is not Great," came to speak about this year's MSE Symposium topic: Renewing American Culture, the Perspectives that shape our Identity. I wasn't quite sure if I was going but it was so worth it. He made some fantastic points that I know I personally take for granted being an American. I may not be an International Relations major or a huge history buff, but I could appreciate the points he was making on our unique political identity and heritage, and I think everyone left Shriver that night feeling empowered, or at least wanting to actively participate in the political process. (If you want to read about who came last year I've got a post from one of the speakers I attended in my October 14th entry.) Here's a link to this year's website. We've got some really interesting people coming to campus, like Bill Nye, Edward James Olmos, and Danny Glover.
I'm back in band, and it's still great. Here are my posts on playing Slaughterhouse 5 and being in flute choir .
Sailing is back with a vengance! We've already gone out on 3 trips this year (insane right?) and participation and student interest has gone up 100 fold. No new pics yet, but if you read my November 13, 2006 post with pictures from the Inner Harbour and Fort McHenry where we sail.
Than comes compliments of our first dinner party in my new room...and the other is my fantastic new kitchen. It's not much, but compared to what we had and all the food we bought last year (see my November 15th entry with the grocery conquest!).
I'm still in touch with Dr. Moudrianakis (the professor who I took three classes with last year, this one was my favourite: December 4, 2006 ), and this year I've decided to double major, I'm now a Natural Science focus Public Health major and I"m adding on Latin American Studies as my double. I can't wait to start taking my LAS classes next semester! I think I'll start with Sociology in Latin America...the world just may be my oyster.
The weather is finally cooling down here in Baltimore, or at least a little. Nothing like the snow from last year (see February blogs ) but it's been great none the less.
Oh me Oh my...it's late and I have 8:30 class tomorrow morning (yea, that's right pretty sick huh?). HOWEVER I can't help but mention this in my blog because it was, perhaps, one of the greatest things I've ever seen. So my friend Ari called me today and asked if I could come out to the beach to take a picture for her, so I agreed and went out there. As it turns out, a friend of hers, who is an RA in the dorm across from me, is also in the Air Force and was proposing to his girlfriend today. So he took her up in his plane while we got a bunch of people together and spelled "Marry Me?" in the grass. I love the Hopkins community...not that I'm saying everybody gets married (far from!) and not even that everyone is this creative and romantic (I for one most certainly would never think of this) but it was so nice how people who were out studying were willing to go lie down in the grass to help a fellow student out...plus it was movie romantic and we all know I'm a sucker for those! SO here are the pictures, I'm going to go to bed and sleep off this virus...MUCH much more to come so stay tuned!!

I heard about this, my friend Alex was in one of the letters too!

OK, I love the entry but I have a major problem with your first line. It might come from a Keith Urban song, but he is ripping off Natalie Merchant and the 10,000 Maniacs.
And oh that Marry Me idea is amazing and corny all in one. Fantastic.

Oh no really? I feel terrible what a huge misnomer on my part :-X
And yea it was terribly corny...but I couldn't help getting sucked in you know I'm a hopeless romantic at heart!

Aww Daniel, don't knock Keith's creativity. That's a coincidence I'm sure: he's a genius. And besides, isn't the 10,000 Maniacs line "These are the days YOU'LL remember"? Apples and oranges! ;]
But anyway, lol, I'm so glad you're trying out country! It's such an underrated music genre. You gotta check out Kenny Chesney next.
I've been seeing pictures around on Facebook and have been wondering what this was all about - how could a girl say no to a proposal like that?! Too cute! =]

I'm in support of Daniel on this one. I had an old blog title called These Are the Days and I was definitely doing it after the 10,000 Maniacs.

So since this is my blog I feel like I should mediate before we have some kind of altercation...
