Another McCoy-ian. I am proud to say that I live in the biggest double offered in the entire building: 225 square feet. We live in a handicap suite (why would they put a handicap suite on the top floor, I don't know) even though the four of us are not physically challenged. Alright, now for the grand tour:
This is the entrance into our suite. It's spacious because, well, the entire place is mapped out to fit a wheel chair. The kitchenette is on the right and the bathroom is on the left. There is also a single bedroom on the left. Our double and another single are towards the right.
This is our kitchenette. There aren't that many dishes in the sink because Health & Inspection is due this week. This is where a lady comes and inspects all of the rooms to make sure they're habitable. I usually just make soup & heat up my sushi. Oh yes, microwaves are glorious. I got it when my dad visited in October.
.
Directly across the kitchenette is this void space. Those are my two suitcases because I have too much clothes, and they are currently storing my tanktops and shorts. Those are boxes that we saved. They'll come to good use on May 18th when we pack up to send the beloved microwave to storage for three months. One of my suitemates also recycles her RedBull cans. That's the door to the potty.
This is the bathroom. It looks white and sparkling, but it's not (further pictures will testify). All handicap suites have bathtubs, so that's on the right. It's spacious, but we don't have a cabinet around the sink. Thus, all of my personal grooming essentials are still in the box that came with me from Memphis in late August. Oh, and we get three rolls of toilet paper every Thursday. I guess we don't go much.
Here's our special bathtub. Ok, that's just not good for my skin. Look at that dirt! My roommate said she tried to scrub it off, but it didn't work. I didn't realize it was so scruffy until I took a picture of it. I guess photographs really do tell the truth: we're slobs! Seriously, we're going to fail the Health & Inspection test this week. How unnecessary (slash unhealthy).
Ok, here's my favorite place: my bed! It's at a half-loft. I sleep right next to Maroon5 & right in front of Seth Cohen. Don't worry, Orlando Bloom is in the house, too. That's Rachael Lampa. She's an amazing vocalist! I am actually not really girly, but my room will argue against this truth. I just like colors, ok? Who wants to live in a gloomy room?
Right underneath my bed is my hiding spot. I read in my desk chair, and there is plenty of light because of the nice clip-on lamp (those are really handy, by the way). I usually do my quiet times with the Lord down there and read my new Chronicles of Narnia book. Or jam on my beautiful Seagull. Yes, and sing very loudly (when the roommate is not here).
Directly across from my bed is where all the junk is. I have these cubicles that stack up very conveniently. My school books, laundry detergent, purses, sweaters, some more clothes, and junk food go here. That's my guitar right in front of the air conditioner. Yes, all of us in McCoy and Wolman have individual A/C's. Yes, we can control the thermostat!
.In between the bed & the cubicle is my desk. I wouldn't recommend bringing a stereo because a computer is sufficient. I just brought it along anyway (I didn't know any better). That's my laundry basket that should be emptied more often. My desk is usually very messy, but all of my books are scattered on a table in the library because I have a midterm tomorrow.
Across from the desk are my insufficient clothing-storage units. You'd think it'd be enough, but I have way too many jackets! That's my huge television that I do not use. I didn't want to pay for cable since I don't watch the tube that much (I buy Gilmore Girls DVD's), but I brought it for my frequent movie nights. My bed is directly in front of the t.v. so I can relax on the weekends.
This is an overall picture of half of my half of the room. The dresser and t.v. actually separate the two halves of the room. My roommate & I get along, but it's just nice to have some privacy. Plus, I always wake up earlier than she does, so I can use my desklamp without disturbing her. You manage to work your way around the tidbits.
.
That's my roommate's side of the room. Her desk and dresser are on the left and her bed is on the right. Her side isn't as colorful as mine which goes to show that your room just depends on you & what you're comfortable with. We're different, but we work well together. Did I tell you she's a sophomore? I actually live with all sophomores because I did what Julia did with the housing forms.
This is her desk area. I just wanted to show you guys our window. We have two windows actually. It's kind of sad though because we look over Hopkins Inn rather than a beautiful ocean or even a patch of grass. The room to our left actually has a decent view though, so don't worry! You give and take in the two-year college-dorming journey.
This is our lounge. Every floor has two lounges. There's a t.v. with free cable, so it's up for grabs. It's usually pretty busy in here with people watching various shows, eating Ruby Tuesday's takeout, playing videogames, or studying, but it's quiet tonight for some reason. This is about three steps outside of our suiteroom door. It's nice to hang out with floormates after a long day of classes.
Last but not least, the study lounge. Every floor except the 2nd (because it has an exercise room instead) has one. It's located between the East & West lounges. These are real Hopkins students diligently studying. Yes, I made them pretend they were intensely studying. The study lounges are great places to study with quiet, but it's also nice to study with friends.
Ok, that's it for now, folks! I hope the tour was helpful. Actually, it's really not because freshmen are not allowed to dorm in McCoy next year. Although the facilities are super nice, I think I would have rather lived in the AMR's though. Or actually, Building A or B! It's just nice to be surrounded by your graduating class. Plus, it makes getting missed lecture notes a lot easier. Alas, I will be living in McCoy again next year. And guess what? I will be living in 510C. Yes, ladies and gents, the same double room one floor down. I guess it's nice considering it's the largest double room in the building! Cheers!
