Round Two. Battle of McCoy 10-CEE Series. Let me explain.
Last year, on Hopkins Interactive Cribs day, I posted a personal interview with my room, McCoy 610C. This year, the X-10C series continues. Formal introduction: e-world, meet my room, McCoy 510C. Here are the odds: there are six members in the X-10C family. I am intimately aquainted with two of them. Two years at Hopkins, and I've effortlessly beat over a thousand students for the spacious handicapped room. Is my student data incorrectly noted?
Maybe it is the SAAB-effect. You see, Liny (the super BME, message board dominator) has claims on McCoy 210C. A third of the McCoy X-10C series belongs to this group. Anyway, so here is the challenge: one room and three different designs/arrangements. This is the perfect evidence to the truth that one's personality is splattered over one's dorm space. Same furniture & the same dimensions. Five different students involved in the not-so-Trading-Spaces.
Room I: "Feels Like Today" McCoy 510C
This year, my roommate and I decided to employ the "cluttered effect". It's a strange concept. What we were essentially aiming towards was a "Study Area" and a "Sleeping Area". Thus, we used our two wardrobes to divide the room in half. Housing added an extra accessory: the heater. Our heater has been broken for quite some time, but I actually prefer the take-up-room-on-the-floor heater. It really colors the room with a "home" feel. Maybe it's just because you never see such amenities in dorm rooms.
This is my desk. It's usually crowded with books and loose-leaf sheets of paper. I hardly ever study
in my room. You'll usually find me at MSE, M-level crowded on a huge table with three too many people. We may all be studying separate subjects, but we still choose to be together. My roommate, on the other hand, always studies in the room. I guess it works out for the both of us. It's amazing how close friends can all have different study habits. You, prospective student, simply have to discover your groove. (Here are your designers, to the left.)
Room II: "Wide Open Spaces" McCoy 210C
This room is Liny & Leeta's nook. Honestly,
I was amazed to randomly walk in on them one afternoon (to take pictures for this blog like a faithful SAAB-er) and see such a clean room! In addition, I absolutely loved their layout. It's very, very spacious, but it definitely has a cozy home feeling. Remember, the dimensions of the two room are identical to the button. 225 square feet. They have a nice
continuity to their room AND they have a bean-bag chair + television. They also
stacked their wardrobe on top of a drawer to get extra height and more space. All little secrets of the professional dorm stylers. Speaking of which, I am proud to introduce to you the amazingly fabulous duo: Liny & Leena (to the right)! Don't you love how I made them pose for me (actually it's really for YOU)?
Room III: "So Yesterday" McCoy 610C
This is my dorm room from last year. My roommate is now living in
Charles Commons with our suitemate. They're both a year older so the process times were a bit different. I think she's enjoying her little space though. Not that our space was bad last year; however, looking back, I do encourage freshmen to opt to live in the AMR's. Read Kate's site for a real testimony of life in the (ARM) pit. Just playing: the fantastic, never better, exceptional AMR!
Anyway, the credits are fixing to roll in. This entry took me a span of three days to compose. Let me share with you my dad's e-mail which I read last night at 1:00AM before heading to bed (to be fresh for my first Cell Biology exam). It's attached below. Anyway, pick a design (I vote Room II) and insert it into the comments section for my personal amusement. Don't choose based on Rascal Flatts, Dixie Chicks, and Hilary Duff perference . . man, I promise my music taste isn't THAT distasteful. Anyway, enjoy! P.S. Here you go, Daddy! Everything is excellent!
Great entry - and I am glad you featured Liny too. And I love the note to your Dad - truly classic!
