Why Hopkins?

Why Hopkins? We here at Hopkins Interactive spend large portions of our semester discussing why someone should choose to come to Johns Hopkins. At a recent admitted student open house we filmed Deans and current students responding to this very question. So whereever you are in the college search process, this video should help answer the tried and true question of "Why Hopkins?"

Center for Social Concern

One of the most defining characteristics of the Johns Hopkins undergraduate experience is giving back to community. Getting involved is quite easy for Hopkins students, especially because of the existence of the Center for Social Concern. The mission of the Center for Social Concern is:

The Center for Social Concern emphasizes the value of service with others, rather than the commonly accepted concept of service to others. The volunteer and client enter into an educational process where both benefit from the interaction and reciprocal learning is the common ground for all of our initiatives. Our programs and efforts are striving to create a "better community" in and around the Johns Hopkins campus.

To learn more about CSC we have put together some interesting videos for you. Enjoy!

Athletics at Hopkins

Lacrosse! Lacrosse! Lacrosse! Many people associate athletics at Johns Hopkins with this ancient Native American game. But there is so much more. What about the rest of us, who can’t cradle a stick to save our life?

For us there’s the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center with its basketball courts, pool, rock wall, squash and raquetball courts, exercise rooms and much, much more. Check out this fabulous tour of the facilities Hopkins students use to keep their bodies fit, when they’re not exercising their minds.

Inside Charles Commons

It feels like Hopkins is constantly building new buildings and renovating old ones. Fall 2006 marked the opening of Charles Commons, a snazzy new dorm for sophomores. It’s suite style housing with doubles and quads. This video focuses on the common space of Charles Commons (yes that’s right Charles Commons has great common space). Watch Hopkins Interactive members give a tour of this wonderful building which is so much more than your average college dorm!

Inside the MSE Library

There are a lot of myths, rumors, and mysteries that surround the Johns Hopkins University's Milton S. Eisenhower Library. Some true and some quite false. A team of Hopkins Interactive students went exploring the various levels of the library a few weeks ago, and here we have posted their record of their excursion.

Enjoy the video and we hope you get a better understanding of the library's place in the life of a Hopkins undergraduate:

Dining Options: On-Campus

We at Hopkins Interactive know that one of the most important issues when reviewing a college campus is the FOOD!!! For many years, the food at Hopkins was considered ... well let's just say it wasn't any good. But that all changed a couple of years ago, and the Dining Options are now plentiful and quite edible. Actually, many students now consider the food and dining to be one of Hopkins better qualities.

So since FOOD is such an issue, we have focused on the on-campus dining options for our next Video Blog entry. Enjoy!

To continue the food discussion and get answers to frequently asked dining questions, go to this message board thread (FOOD: Good or Bad) or visit the official JHU Dining web site.

The Legendary Gilman Hall

The last two weeks we at Hopkins Interactive have been hard at work preparing a video detailing the historic Gilman Hall. This beloved building is due for an overhaul (read more here) and we wanted to get in and show you the "before pictures". Home to the humanities departments, the Hut and many, many staircases Gilman hall is a favorite building on campus. Check back in 2010 for our video showcasing the brand new Gilman Hall!

Enjoy!

Video Tour of Gilman Hall: Coming Soon

Greetings Video Blog faithful. Unfortunately we do not have a new Hopkins Interactive video to share this week ... but don't fret. In anticipation of next week's video tour of historical Gilman Hall, we want to share with you a video produced recently by the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, entitled "The Heart of Gilman." The video was created as part of the development campaign for the renovation and rejuvenation of Gilman Hall. To learn more about the history, present, and future of Gilman Hall, read this recent Hopkins Insider blog, Improving Homewood: Round Three (Gilman Hall).

Now for the video presentation.

Admissions CRIBS: Mason Hall 217

Get ready for a special entry to our Video Blog. In the coming weeks and months we will be presenting a whole new collection of Hopkins CRIBS videos, presenting the various residential options available to Hopkins students. To prepare you all for those well-produced videos, we present you this interesting (cheesy?) "Admissions CRIBS: Mason Hall 217" video - a look into the office of an actual Admissions counselor. Hopefully our tour through Admissions_Daniel's office can help provide a little more insight into the world of the people who actually evaluate the applications. AAAAHHHHH!

Enjoy!
